Inspection cover nut plates

(Sept 14 & 21, 2025) Not sure why I didn’t do this earlier as part of the wings build, but I installed doublers and nut plates for each of the inspection covers that attach to the bottom of the wings.  I have fellow Sling builder Pascal L. to thank for this mod, it was his idea and he even sent me the doubler plates a long time ago.

These inspection covers were designed by Sling to be simply riveted to the skin with 3.2mm rivets, but instead I attached MS21047-L06 anchor nuts to the skin/doubler, using 3/32″ flush rivets to attach the nut. Now, the inspection covers can be easily removed for the annual condition inspection.

I also commandeered one of the inspection covers on the starboard side wing to attach the outside air temperature probe. To account for the drag of the probe, I increased the thickness of the plate/cover from 0.020″ to 0.040″.

Using a template, I drill holes for the anchor nut and then dimple the holes so that the cover will sit flush to the skin
