Windshield Defrost Outlets
The custom climate system includes a pair of outlets facing the windshield to demist in cold or humid conditions. This design diverts sharply from the kit design; the original Sling 4 kit had no window defroster at all, and when the TSi debuted it included an outlet in front of the dash sub panel, with a hole somewhat incorporated into the taller dash. I decided to locate the outlets further back, with diffusers attached directly to the dash via SCAT hoses. This meant I needed to cut some holes!
It was a bit unnerving to cut into the lovely padded dash and the fiberglass underneath, but I’m happy with how cleanly the diffusers integrated in the end. I used a very sharp hobby knife to cut through the leather and padding, then an oscillating tool to cut through the fiberglass.
